Technically it’s a micrograph. What we see is the very edge of a microscope coverslide overgrown with HEK293 (Human Endothelial Kidney cells). The cells were infected with Sindbis virus (stained green), and the nuclei are stained blue.
I put the camera down on the table, and the LCD was active. I liked the picture, so I pressed the shutter button.
Just as with the wasps this was the closest I got using the 200mm telephoto lens. If I had gotten any closer, our friends would have ran away… (unlike the wasps.)
